Fujikawaguchiko is the ideal place to relax or enjoy leisurely walks in the coming autumn days. The heat of the summer has softened and the cool breezes from Mt.Fuji lead us slowly into the autumn season. The cool climate makes for comfortable days of leaisure and enjoyment. In these autumn months, the theme of nature, culture and relaxation are offered to the visitors of Fujikawaguchiko. As it is the best time for walking and hiking, we recommend you take advantage of the abundance of comfortable walking courses and hiking available along the lakeside, in the ancient forests and mountains, and amongst the historical town. While doing so, you can take in the many natural and cultural sites along the way.

Take a Walk Through the History and Nature of Mt.Fuji’s Ancient Forest


The precious forest of Mt.Fuji, the Aokigahara “sea of trees,” spreads from the mid range of the mountain to the shores of Saiko Lake and further west. The forest was so named because viewed from above, it spreads out like a vast sea. In this unique virgin forest, there are many rare flora and fauna to be discovered and a mysterious atmoshphere created by the eruption of Mt.Fuji long ago. There are various mapped hiking routes through the Aokigahara forest, which can be entered from various points around Fujikawaguchiko. Since the history, formation, and peculiarities of the forest are so unique, we recommend you take advantage of the guided nature tour. A local guide (English guide available if booked in advance) will take you on an in depth tour of the forest, providing you with all the information and knowledge to truly understand and appreciate the mangnificent forest.

Lakeside Walking Course

If a pleasant walk or bike ride along the lake is what you fancy, we highly recommend the ay walking course paths along Kawaguchiko lake. The path commands beautiful views of the lakeside and of Mount Fuji, from different areas around the lake. Most of the spots of interest, restaurants, museums and beautiful parks can be found along the walking paths. About 70% of the lake is covered by the path, set away from the road allowing for a relaxing, care free walk. In addition there are man rest points and benches available. This season, enjoy the blooming cosmos flowers along many points of the walking course



The Fuji Highlands and Farm Festival

The highlands of the west side of Mt.Fuji is home to many sprawling cow pastures, dairy farms and ranches. Views of grazing cows in the open green fields, set to the vast blue sky and Mt.Fuji, creates a truly stunning scenery. A bus or car ride along the country roads, stopping at country stores, farmers markets and open fields makes for a wonderful afternoon. Kawaguchiko Autumn Festival


In October, the surrounding mountains of Fujikawaguchiko begin to change color, basking its inhabitants in a colorful brilliance. The beautiful and subtle Japanese maple tree “momiji” are dotted along the lakeside of Kawaguchiko and scattered throughout the hills. The Kawaguchiko Autumn Festival is held every year on the northern side of Lake Kawaguchiko. The festival ground has various tents and stalls offering local delicacies, wine and beer, a small farmers market, arts and crafts, textiles and much more. Various events will be held corresponding to the festival, with special events on weekends. The highlight of the festival is walking along the “momiji” path at dusk when the beautiufully colored leaves are lit up romantically. And of course the glorious view of the lake and Mt.Fuji!
