Katsuyama Horseback Archery Festival (April 29)
A summary introduction sentence
Katsuyama Horseback Archery Festival (April 29)
- The festival, with a history of over 900 years begins with the traditional ceremony for good fortune in battle - a ceremony that tells of the bravery of the samurai of feudal Japan. The ceremony ends in a dramatic display of real archery from horseback. At the sound of the drums, the horses dash forward, kicking sand into the air. The archer aims and fires in an impressive display of marksmanship. This spectacular finale is like something from the picture scrolls of the warring state period of Japan.
